Frequently Asked Questions
on: choosing your planner
Firstly, if you close your eyes and visualise your week… Do you see it running across - or down?
Both of our weekly planners move from Monday through to Sunday, either across the spread (in our Vertical Weekly layout), or from top to bottom of the page (in our Horizontal Weekly layout). Both of our weekly layouts offer the same amount of space across all 7 days.
Our Weekly Vertical planner is best suited to daily list makers, due to the long columned format of each day. This layout offers you a blank canvas for structuring your day however you wish! It offers space to record events, meetings and timed appointments. You have flexibility to segment your day and allocate blocks of time, while also allowing space for your daily to-do list.
Our Weekly Horizontal planner has less space allocated to each day, but offers a full dot grid note page on the right side of the spread, for a weekly to-do list and all of your brain dumps. This layout offers a lot of room for customisation. This layout is perfect if you need a planner to keep track of a few key appointments and dated milestones, but you also need space to get things out of your head onto paper. Our horizontal layout is also perfect for journaling. You can use each day to track your habits, record highlights, or write down things you’re grateful for, and then use the note page to journal in long-form, or sticking in photos and other memorabilia you collect along the way.
Our Daily planner is for the lives that require one full page per day. This planner doesn’t offer you a week-at-a-glance view, but you can use the monthly section at the start of the planner for your broader, topline planning. Our daily planner makes for the perfect desk companion, or journaling keepsake.
Our Horizontal Weekly planner is now our most popular. It’s a favourite for its spacious, free-flowing weekly view.
Our Vertical Weekly planner is the original layout we created and unique to our brand. It's suitable if you love daily list-making and a little more structure in your week.
Our Signature sized planners measure 165mm wide x 195mm tall, while our Grande sized planners measure 215mm wide x 265mm tall.
We will not be releasing any additional colours or styles.
We have intentionally simplified our offering for this season, and what you see on our website now is the full and complete range for 2027.
Our Serendipity planner, the patterned cover and namesake of our 2027 collection.
Perhaps it’s the story she carries, or simply the feeling she gives. Perhaps it’s the way all five colours are woven together as a tapestry. Serendipity holds the entire collection within her.
The pattern was designed in-house, beginning by hand with paintbrush and paper. Inspired by old-world romance and nostalgic wallpaper, there’s something familiar and comforting about her - a pattern that feels as though it might have belonged to another time, reimagined for this one.
That said, each planner colourway has its own personality and story, which you can read about here.
on: shipping timelines, payment, tracking + deliveries
Our 2027 planner collection is currently on pre-order and will begin shipping from the end of August.
All orders containing a pre-order item will be held until all stock is available and ready-to-ship. If you would like in-stock items shipped immediately, please place a separate order.
Keep an eye out for dispatch progress updates and behind-the-scenes fun over on Instagram.
We dispatch orders in the same sequence they're placed, so the earlier you order, the sooner your order will be packed and on its way.
Within Australia, we offer both Standard and Express Shipping. Standard orders are sent via either Australia Post or Couriers Please, while Express orders are always shipped via Australia Post’s Express Post service.
For international orders, Standard Shipping is sent via Australia Post, and Express Shipping is sent via Australia Post Express International, or with FedEx, depending on which service offers the best delivery option for your destination.
We have no plans to introduce Afterpay as a payment option.
We believe our products are thoughtful, considered purchases rather than impulse buys. We never want to encourage spending beyond your means, and we hope our community always feels comfortable taking the time to make a considered decision before purchasing.
Express Shipping refers to the delivery service used once your parcel leaves our warehouse. It does not speed up the time it takes for your order to be packed and dispatched.
All orders are packed in the order they’re received. If you’d like your order to leave our warehouse sooner, you can select our Priority Dispatch service at checkout.
Once our planners arrive and are ready to ship, Priority Dispatch moves your order to the very front of our packing queue, with your order typically leaving our warehouse the same business day.
Priority Dispatch also includes Express Shipping, so you’ll receive both faster dispatch and faster delivery.
Once your order has been dispatched, you'll receive a shipping confirmation email containing your tracking number and a link to track your parcel.
For the most up-to-date tracking information and estimated delivery date, we recommend tracking your parcel directly with the shipping carrier using the tracking link provided in your email.
Yes! We offer Local Pickup from our Melbourne warehouse at 5/45 McArthurs Road, Altona North, VIC 3025
Yes! We have a wonderful network of stockists across Australia and internationally, so you may be able to find a store near you. You can view our full list of stockists on our website.
Not all stockists carry our complete range of planners, stationery and accessories. If you're looking for a particular planner, colour or product, we recommend contacting the store directly before visiting to confirm they have it in stock.
on: orders + order changes
We'll always do our best to help, but we can't guarantee changes can be made once an order has been placed.
If you'd like to add to or amend your order, please email us as soon as possible at studio@emmakateco.com with your name, order number, and a summary of the changes or additions you'd like to make.
If your order hasn't already been packed or dispatched, we'll do everything we can to accommodate your request.
As outlined in our Shipping & Returns Policy, we do not offer order cancellations or refunds for change of mind.
Please take a moment to review your order carefully before completing your purchase.
If your order contains both pre-order and in-stock items, your entire order will be held until all items are available and ready to be dispatched together.
If you'd like your in-stock items to be shipped straight away, we recommend placing a separate order for those items.
We understand that life happens, and sometimes plans change.
If you know you'll be moving before your pre-order is dispatched, we recommend using a family member's or close friend's address at checkout if possible.
If your address changes unexpectedly after you've placed your order, please email us as soon as possible at studio@emmakateco.com with your name, order number, and your new shipping address. We'll do our very best to update your details before your order is packed and dispatched, although we cannot guarantee changes can be made once the dispatch process has begun.
on: stock availability + selling out
Our planners are designed as a limited edition collection each year, so once they sell out, it won't be restocked.
If you've had your eye on a specific planner, we recommend ordering sooner rather than later, as popular styles and colours can sell out quickly.
Once they're gone, they'll no longer be available until we release a brand-new collection the following year.
Our 2027 planner collection is complete, and we will not be releasing any additional colours or planner styles for this collection.
We don’t have imperfect planners available as yet.
If our team comes across any imperfect planners during the dispatch process, we set these aside and we’ll release them later in the season. As these are simply the planners we happen to find along the way, an imperfect release isn’t guaranteed, and we can’t guarantee that every size, layout or colour will be available.
Any imperfect planners released will be announced to our email list first. You can sign up here to be notified.
on: planner design, features + inclusions
Yes! We introduce a new planner colour palette every year.
Emma Kate Co. has always been a reflection of Emma’s personal style and creative world - and, just like all of us, that is constantly evolving.
Each collection is thoughtfully created to capture a particular feeling, season and story, which means our colours evolve from year to year too.
Yes, absolutely! All of our planners feature lay-flat binding, so they open beautifully and sit flat on your desk from day one, with no need to hold them open or weigh the pages down.
For our internal pages we use an uncoated, off-white 120gsm paper for weekly [signature + grande planners] and 90gsm paper for daily planners [FSC certified]. Our paper definitely is thick in feel and has an uncoated, subtle texture to the paper.
We've tested a wide range of pens, including ballpoint, gel, fineliner and fountain pens, and most perform beautifully without bleeding or feathering. Because our weekly planners use thicker 120gsm paper, ink is generally not noticeable on the reverse side of the page.
Our daily planners are made with lighter 90gsm paper, so some shadowing may be visible depending on the pen and ink you use. While we can't guarantee every pen will perform perfectly, most everyday pens work wonderfully on our pages.
We offer our own pens which aesthetically match our planners and glide beautifully on our planner pages too!
Yes! In all of our planner layouts, weekends and weekdays have the same amount of space.
This has always been a much-loved feature of our planners, as we know life doesn't always fit neatly into the traditional Monday-to-Friday schedule. Whether you're planning work, family life, study or weekend adventures, every day is given the same amount of room to write.
In our Daily and Horizontal Weekly layouts, the space for weekdays and weekends are identical.
We are so fortunate to have a global community of planner lovers who purchase our planners from every corner of the world.
In every country and state/province, public holidays are different. In addition, people of different religious and cultural backgrounds also follow different holiday calendars. The same goes for school holidays and term dates. Not all of our planner users are impacted by school dates.
One of the reasons Emma created our planners was because she found many traditional planners cluttered with dates that weren't relevant to her. Rather than filling the pages with information that may not apply to everyone, we've intentionally kept our layouts clean and flexible, allowing you to personalise your planner in a way that suits your own life.
We encourage you to add the dates and holidays that matter most to you. Many of our customers use the small heading box beside each date to note public holidays, celebrations or other important occasions throughout the year.
This is one of our most frequently asked questions, and it's something we revisit every year when designing our planners. Each time, we come back to the same decision: keeping all of the monthly spreads together at the front creates the clearest and most intuitive planning experience.
The main reason is that months rarely end neatly at the end of a week. If monthly spreads were placed throughout the planner, you would either begin a new month, interrupt it with the monthly calendar, and then continue that same month on the following pages, or finish a monthly calendar only to turn the page and find yourself back in the previous month. We found this disrupted the flow of the planner and often caused confusion.
Many members of our planner community also use their monthly and weekly layouts for different purposes. Monthly spreads are often used for important dates, appointments, travel and planning ahead, while the weekly or daily pages are where the detail, to-do lists and day-to-day planning happen. Keeping the monthly calendars together makes it easy to see the bigger picture at a glance while maintaining a seamless flow through the weekly and daily pages.
We recommend using one of the ribbon markers to keep your current month bookmarked, making it quick and easy to flick between your monthly overview and your current week or day.
At this stage, we have no plans to introduce a spiral-bound planner.
Our planners have always been beautifully bookbound, and that's a design choice we love. Combined with our lay-flat binding, they offer a clean, timeless aesthetic and a writing experience that feels both practical and beautiful.
Yes! Our compendiums are designed to fit both our Weekly and Daily planners.
Each compendium is thoughtfully designed to hold a range of our products, including planners, softcover notebooks and hardcover journals (just not all at once!)
Simply choose the compendium that matches your planner size. Our Signature Compendium fits all Signature-sized products, while our Grande Compendium is designed to fit all Grande-sized products.
on: planner upkeep!
The short answer… you can’t!
Dirty, messy and real is welcome here. We embrace the chaos, and we believe that after 12 months of love + living, your planner should tell the story of the year you have lived – who you were, and who you have become – in this passage of time. Every coffee stain, watermark, smudge of icing or whatever-that-was makes your planner uniquely yours. Real. Lived in. Authentic. You don’t expect to wear the same clothes every day for a year and have them be perfectly clean by the end of it… your planner sees as much life as you do, so why shouldn’t it show it?
For the perfectionists among us, know that you can gently wipe your fabric covers with a warm, slightly damp cloth to reduce marks. And maybe consider a compendium? We created these as a beautiful, practical way for you to keep your planner a little more protected while she’s on the move.
While our monogramming is stamped by hand with high quality foil + the utmost of care, the nature of stamped foil on fabric is that the foil will rub and wear with use.
Remember, the beauty of a physical planner is the story that it tells over time, and thus we don’t consider standard wear a fault.
on: manufacturing + ethical compliance
We work with a small, family-run manufacturer in Shenzhen, China.
All of our [thousands!] of planners are made by hand by our team there.
Supporting local is something we care deeply about.
Firstly, by shopping with Emma Kate Co., you are supporting an Australian small business. We’re Melbourne-based, and every purchase supports our local team and their families, as well as the many Australian couriers, suppliers, creatives and stockists we work alongside.
We make every product we reasonably can here in Australia. Our greeting cards, for example, are printed locally in Adelaide and hand-folded by our own team.
Our planners, journals and notebooks are handmade in China, and we’re incredibly proud of the longstanding relationship we have with our manufacturing partners there. Our planners are made by a small, family-run business we’ve worked closely with for the past 10 years. Their factories are safe, clean and ethical, their workers are paid fair, liveable wages, and we regularly undertake comprehensive social-compliance reporting to ensure the standards we expect are upheld.
The reality is that producing our planners and notebooks in Australia, at the quality, complexity and volume we require, simply isn’t currently viable. An enormous amount of skilled, hands-on work goes into creating each piece, and our manufacturing partners have the specialised infrastructure and craftsmanship required to produce them to our exacting standards, while also allowing us to keep our pricing accessible.
We’re proud to challenge the outdated perception that Made in China means lesser quality. Our products are beautifully and meticulously made by real people with extraordinary skill and care, and we're immensely proud of the quality they produce for us.
Supporting Australian businesses matters enormously to us — and so does valuing and respecting the people who make our products, wherever in the world they happen to live.
When you choose Emma Kate Co., you are supporting an Australian small business and the livelihoods of the wonderful people and families, both here in Australia and abroad, who help us bring each piece to life.
