For our second week in the UK, having carved out a handful of days between trade shows and work requirements, Charles and I hopped in a hire car and drove two hours to wander in the English Countryside. “No where in particular” was on our itinerary – and what a lovely destination that sounded, indeed. It was time to breathe in some summer air and get lost on purpose.

We happened to stumble on what we later realised is considered to be one of the most picture-perfect towns in all of storybook England – Castle Combe. It was a weekday afternoon in between rain showers, and the streets were deserted, luckily for us…

We arrived at Stow on The Wold at golden hour and found our way to a cheese and wine feast that we inhaled before photographing. I surprised Charles with a night at the cutest AirBnB I have EVER discovered. Surely this place was made for Instagramming, yet I managed to leave without taking even a single photo. If you’re a blogger, please stay for me and do it justice! We did remember to take some photos of the pretty streets, at least.

We spent two days eating our way through Bath (didn’t even bring the camera on those days). And then we found ourselves staying on another sweet Airbnb atop a valley with this view, in a town my London friends hadn’t even heard of. We were beautifully off the grid and loved every moment of it.

Checking In – Ellenborough Park

Driving through the gates of Ellenborough Park, just outside of Cheltenham, it became immediately clear to me that this accommodation was not a point of departure for exploring, it is an entire destination in itself. The honeystoned main house dates back to the 1500s and the extensive grounds sprawl beyond the horizon in every direction – it was like we had found ourselves in a real life fairytale.

For two beautiful nights we were welcomed into one of the main house suites, and dined like royalty in the AA Rosetted Beaufort Dining room. By night, we worked into the early hours, by day, we rested and wandered the exquisite grounds.
